Oppose section 224 of NDAA 2027

To: Sen. Murray, Sen. Cantwell, Rep. Newhouse

June 1

I am writing to urge you to oppose Section 224 of the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act. I am concerned that this provision would expand military integration and cooperation between the United States and Israel beyond what many Americans are comfortable with. I believe the United States should maintain clear independence in its military decision-making and avoid arrangements that could blur the line between U.S. and foreign military interests. I am also concerned about the influence that the Israeli government and pro-Israel advocacy organizations may have on U.S. foreign policy decisions. Many Americans feel that U.S. policy toward Israel does not always receive the level of scrutiny and debate that other foreign policy issues receive. Additionally, I am concerned about the amount of U.S. taxpayer money provided to Israel. I believe foreign aid and military assistance should be fully transparent, subject to rigorous oversight, and openly debated by Congress. Any provision that could make it more difficult for the public to understand how funds are allocated or spent raises serious concerns for me. For these reasons, I respectfully ask that you oppose Section 224 or support its removal from the final legislation. Thank you for your time and consideration. I would appreciate hearing your position on this issue.
