I support immediate action to protect the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts from demolition by the reckless Kennedy Center board. The Kennedy Center was established by Congress as a living memorial to President John F. Kennedy and has served as a national home for the performing arts for more than 50 years. The Trump-appointed Kennedy Center board is pursuing a major renovation while continuing efforts to prominently place President Trump’s name on the building and grounds. After a federal judge ruled that the board could not unilaterally change the congressionally established name of the Kennedy Center, the Justice Department in court filings wrote the board could choose to demolish the Kennedy Center and replace it with an outdoor amphitheater overlooking the Potomac if it didn’t get its way. Congress must take this threat seriously and stop it from happening. Congress created the Kennedy Center, appropriated the federal money supporting its renovation, and has the authority to protect it. You can prohibit taxpayer dollars from financing demolition, but we all know that alone is likely not enough. You must do whatever it takes to protect it. Nothing should be off the table. You can change the powers of the board, who can be on it, or how big it is. You can even abolish the Kennedy Center board if needed. Do not let the Board help Trump destroy yet another piece of American history. I’m depending on you to act immediately, before it’s too late. STOP THIS MAD MAN FROM RUINING EVERYTHING! NOW.
