Preserve our democracy: defund DHS
To: Sen. McCormick
From: A verified voter in Glenside, PA
January 26
Enough is enough. ICE and CBP have run amok and are killing our countrymen for peaceably assembling. They are using battering rams to invade resident’s houses without a judicial warrant. And most recently, they executed—yes, executed—Alex Pretti because he was assisting a woman they had cruelly shoved to the ground. When they found he had a gun, which he was lawfully permitted to carry and at no time had brandished or reached for, they killed him.
On a daily basis the president’s paramilitary is violating Americans’ rights—rights guaranteed by the First, Second, Fourth, and Fourteenth Amendments among others—injuring or killing people, and destroying our communities and our democracy.
Yes, we have the right to seek redress in the courts. (Of course, Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good can no longer exercise that right.) But courts are slow, and the administration’s cruelty is accelerating. We do not have time to wait for the courts.
Just a few Republicans in Congress could end this nightmare. As your constituent, I beg you to do so. Please vote to defund DHS and CBP and speak out against the lawlessness that this administration is wreaking upon us.
The Trump administration will one day come to an end. American people who believe in democracy and the promise of America will long remember who stood with them. Please let your name be recorded among those who opposed the destruction of this great country.
