Stop Using Social Security to Sell Political Propaganda — I Demand Answers, Not Excuses I am writing as a constituent to demand immediate, concrete action — not sympathy, not a form-letter acknowledgment — in response to the Trump administration’s ongoing misuse of the Social Security Administration for partisan political purposes. On July 2, 2026, SSA Commissioner Frank Bisignano sent beneficiaries an email ostensibly marking America’s 250th birthday. In reality, it was a political messaging document: Bisignano invoked President Trump by name or title six times in five paragraphs, credited him personally for tax relief, and touted customer service “improvements” using metrics SSA itself controls after quietly removing its longstanding, independently comparable service metrics from public view. This is not the first time — Bisignano sent a similarly political email one year earlier. This is a pattern, not an isolated lapse. What Bisignano’s email left out matters as much as what it included: 1. The administration’s tax legislation cuts over $1 trillion from Medicaid and ACA subsidies — cuts already forcing rural hospital closures that directly endanger senior care. 2. The same legislation delivers large tax benefits to the ultra-wealthy while doing nothing to end taxes on Social Security benefits, despite administration claims to the contrary. 3. Since DOGE-driven cuts removed thousands of SSA’s most experienced staff, beneficiaries report months-long delays resolving basic errors that cut off their benefits entirely, while the agency now issues political-brand “Freedom 250” markings on newborns’ Social Security cards. The Social Security Administration exists to administer earned benefits for the American people, full stop. It is not a campaign communications channel, and its beneficiary contact list, covering tens of millions of current and future recipients, is not a political mailing list for any administration, Republican or Democrat. I am demanding that you, as my elected representative, take the following concrete steps and report back directly on your progress: 1. Formally request an Inspector General investigation into SSA’s use of the Hatch Act and any relevant appropriations restrictions regarding this email, and whether taxpayer resources funded a partisan communication. 2. Introduce or co-sponsor legislation requiring SSA, and all agencies handling constituent-facing beneficiary data, to submit any mass communications to beneficiaries for nonpartisan review before distribution. 3. Demand SSA restore the independently verifiable customer service metrics it removed from public reporting, and require regular public accounting of wait times, case backlogs, and staffing levels. 4. Publicly and on the record oppose the use of SSA communications infrastructure, including the Enumeration at Birth program, for branding tied to any political messaging campaign, including “Freedom 250.” I do not want a statement expressing concern. I want to know, in writing, which of these specific actions are being taken, and by what date. Constituents are watching how their representatives respond when core institutions like Social Security are used for partisan gain, and this response will be shared publicly.
