Congress must act after ICE killed a U.S. citizen in Minneapolis.

January 9

Congress must act after ICE killed a U.S. citizen in Minneapolis. On January 7, 2026, federal immigration agents shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, on a residential street in Minneapolis. She was not a suspect, had no warrant, and was present as a legal observer. Video shows her vehicle turning away when an agent fired three shots. No officer was injured. Agents then prevented a physician from rendering aid. Despite clear video evidence, DHS officials labeled the killing “self-defense” and smeared the victim. Minnesota officials publicly rejected that narrative as unsupported and false. This was not an isolated incident. Federal immigration enforcement has become increasingly militarized, opaque, and dangerous, with rising use-of-force incidents, deaths in custody, and repeated court findings against ICE practices. Congress cannot remain silent. Statements are not enough. I urge you to: • Hold immediate public hearings with sworn testimony from DHS and ICE leadership • Subpoena all video, communications, and use-of-force records related to this killing • Prohibit masked or anonymous federal policing in civil immigration enforcement • Mandate a duty to render immediate medical aid • Restore real accountability when federal agents violate constitutional rights When federal agencies kill civilians and face no oversight, Congress has a constitutional duty to act—now.
