Tesla's "Full Self Driving" system requires urgent oversight and regulation. Independent testing found it requires human intervention on average every 13 miles due to dangerous failures like running red lights and crossing into oncoming traffic. While impressive in some ways, FSD remains unreliable and breeds unwarranted overconfidence from drivers. Allowing this inadequately validated technology on public roads endangers all road users. Stringent standards and third-party testing requirements must be implemented before these systems can be deployed at scale. Public safety demands strong regulation of automated driving systems to prevent further incidents and fatalities.
