The Administration's Multi-Pronged Assault on American Voting Rights
To: Pres. Trump

I am writing to express my profound concern regarding the administration’s escalating efforts to undermine American voting rights through aggressive rhetoric, restrictive legislation, and partisan map-making. The discrepancy between the President’s duty to uphold the Constitution and his repeated attempts to frame the electoral process as a "rigged" obstacle is a direct threat to the stability of our Republic and the civil rights of its citizens. - The Election Integrity Army Rhetoric The President’s recent calls for a "republican election army" to monitor polling places is a dangerous escalation. Framing civilian poll-watching as a militant operation is a clear attempt to intimidate voters and poll workers alike. Using the bully pulpit to encourage partisan confrontation at the ballot box is a sharp departure from the peaceful administration of elections required by the constitution. Americans deserve better than this. - Legislative Disenfranchisement: The SAVE and MEGA Acts The administration is currently weaponizing federal legislation to create barriers for eligible voters just months before a national election. By attempting to force the SAVE America Act through the Senate to mandate in-person citizenship documentation—and championing the MEGA Act (H.R. 7300) to ban universal mail-in voting and allow private bounty hunter lawsuits—this government is attempting to dismantle state-level voting successes and replace them with a system of surveillance and exclusion. Americans deserve better than this. - Strategic Gerrymandering to Dilute the Vote The President has been explicitly involved in a gerrymandering war, urging GOP-led states like Texas, Florida, and Alabama to redraw maps specifically to net more House seats. This effort to change maps solely for partisan gain, often at the expense of fair representation for minority communities, treats congressional districts as prizes to be won through cartography rather than earned through the will of the people. Americans definitely deserve better than this. - Floating the Cancellation of Elections When the President muses that "we shouldn't even have an election" because of the political risks his party faces, he treats a constitutional mandate as an optional hurdle. Whether framed as a joke or a critique, such rhetoric from a sitting Commander-in-Chief demeans the office and emboldens those who seek to bypass the democratic process. No president has the authority to treat our elections as negotiable, and Americans deserve better than this. The American public requires a government that respects the sanctity of the vote, not one that treats the democratic process as a battlefield for power retention. I look forward to a response explaining how the administration intends to cease its efforts to delegitimize our elections and return to a fact-based defense of our electoral systems.
