Elon Musk's Hostile Takeover
To: Rep. Dean, Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick
From: A verified voter in Reading, PA
February 4
As should come as no surprise, I am writing about Elon Musk's unlawful actions once again. He and his DOGE minions have gained access to, and caused irreparable harm, to multiple sensitive computer systems. He has not been elected, has not been confirmed, and has no legal authority to do what he has been doing. He needs to be reigned in and the damage he has caused (along with what information and - since he's gained access to the Treasury's systems - funds he may have stolen) must be assessed so that some attempt at repair and correction may begin, though it is entirely possible that permanent harm has already resulted from his actions, particularly when it comes to date security and the lives dependent on humanitarian efforts from USAID. That is just on the very short term - with our Treasury compromised and the high degree of uncertainty surrounding what he will compromise next, our economic standing and the stability of the stock market are likely to seriously suffer as well. I am (and will continue to be) urging you to act to deal with this hostile takeover of our government. The party of the majority in Congress may be that of the President that has appointed Musk to this apparently extrajudicial position, but not everyone in that party wants what Musk is doing. History and the American people will soon be looking far more favorably on those who worked to limit the harm that is being done to our institutions. They will look less favorably on those who allowed, and worse encouraged, his actions. I want to see actions being taken to fix this or, at the very least, a believable indication that there is a plan to do so. Federal employees at the agencies being targeted are working diligently and keeping to their oaths to this country and its Constitution, in the face of unlawful and unsigned offers of "deferred resignation" that strongly resemble the (never paid) offer made to former Twitter employees, uncertainty of whether they will even be able to access the computers they need to do their jobs, and insulting claims that they should leave "low productivity" public sector jobs for the private sector. They are continuing the most important work of our government in the face of all of that. They are holding the line. They are standing by their oaths. I am asking you to do the same.
