FCC Chair Brendan Carr must be removed immediately for threatening to revoke broadcasters' licenses over Iran war coverage the administration dislikes. His statement that broadcasters running what he calls "fake news" will "lose their licenses if they do not" correct course before renewals is a flagrant violation of the First Amendment.
This is not regulatory oversight. This is the government threatening to silence news organizations for coverage it finds unfavorable. Carr explicitly tied his warning to President Trump's complaints about legacy media outlets, making clear this is political retaliation dressed up as license enforcement. The law does not give the FCC authority to determine what constitutes legitimate journalism or to punish broadcasters for reporting the administration disagrees with.
Carr has already shown a pattern of weaponizing his position, launching an "enforcement action" against The View and publicly attacking Stephen Colbert over equal time issues. Now he's threatening the licenses of any broadcaster whose war coverage displeases the White House. This crosses every constitutional line.
I need you to call for Carr's immediate removal and to publicly oppose any FCC action that threatens broadcaster licenses based on editorial content. The First Amendment is not negotiable, even during wartime.
