Demand for Reasons Why the NPS is Removing Slavery Historical Displays

To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Carter, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

January 23

I am writing to demand immediate answers and accountability regarding the documented removal and alteration of historic displays by the National Park Service that address slavery and its role in early American history. This is not speculation. This is not rumor. These removals are happening. The National Park Service exists to preserve and interpret our shared history—not to sanitize it, erase it, or make it more comfortable for political convenience. Slavery is a foundational reality of early America. Removing or diminishing public education about it is not “neutral,” and it is certainly not “patriotic.” It is historical revisionism. The American people have a right to the truth—especially when that truth is painful. We do not learn from atrocities by hiding them. We prevent repetition by confronting them honestly, openly, and without fear. Any effort to obscure the realities of slavery undermines education, democracy, and public trust in our institutions. Congress has oversight authority over the National Park Service. Silence in the face of this erasure is not neutrality—it is complicity. So I am asking, directly: • Who authorized the removal or alteration of these historic displays? • What criteria were used to justify these decisions? • Were political pressures involved? • And what steps will Congress take to ensure that accurate, comprehensive historical interpretation is restored and protected? The American public is tired of being gaslit. We can see what is happening, and we are not fooled by vague statements or bureaucratic deflection. This is about truth, accountability, and the integrity of our national memory. Stand up and fight for the people you represent. Defend factual history. Defend education. Defend the principle that our past—good and bad—belongs to all of us. We are watching. And we expect answers.
