Support diplomacy to keep the Strait of Hormuz open

To: Sen. Ricketts, Rep. Flood, Sen. Fischer

From: A verified voter in Lincoln, NE

March 19

I am writing to urge you to support strong U.S. leadership to ensure the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all international shipping. This narrow waterway carries a substantial share of the world’s oil and natural gas. Any disruption quickly affects global energy prices, economic stability, and the risk of wider conflict. A situation where the strait is uncertain, restricted, or selectively open is not sustainable and undermines international norms. At the same time, a primarily military response is not a durable solution. Protecting freedom of navigation will require serious diplomatic engagement, including coordination with allies and efforts to reduce tensions in the region. I urge you to support diplomatic initiatives to ensure open access under international law, multilateral cooperation with global partners, and policies that reduce the risk of prolonged conflict. The stability of global energy markets and the prevention of further escalation depend on keeping this vital passage open.
