Vote NO on the Funding Bill Until ICE Funding Is Removed
To: Sen. Lankford, Sen. Mullin
From: A verified voter in Oklahoma City, OK
January 24
I am writing as your constituent and fellow American deeply disturbed by recent actions taken by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and related federal immigration agents. I urge you to vote no on the current funding bill unless all funding for ICE and similar federal immigration enforcement operations is removed.
In early January, ICE agents fatally shot and killed Renée Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, in broad daylight on a Minneapolis street. Her death occurred during an immigration enforcement operation and was captured on video, raising serious questions about the necessity and proportionality of the use of deadly force.
Now, on January 24, federal immigration agents — again operating under ICE/Border Patrol authority — have shot and killed another 37-year-old U.S. citizen, Alex Pretti, in Minneapolis while he was recording agents on the sidewalk. Visual evidence and eyewitness accounts show him being wrestled to the ground and shot at close range during a federally led operation.
These are not isolated incidents, but part of a pattern of aggressive, militarized enforcement that has resulted in the loss of American lives and has eroded trust between communities and federal law enforcement.
I am outraged not only by the loss of life, but by the broader implications: federal agencies should not have license to operate with such a lack of restraint, transparency, and accountability — especially with taxpayer dollars funding these operations. I cannot in good conscience support a funding bill that continues to bankroll an agency whose actions have cost American lives.
For these reasons, I respectfully but firmly ask you to:
Vote against the current funding bill unless all ICE funding is removed.
Support legislation that imposes strict limits on the use of deadly force by federal immigration agents and mandates meaningful independent oversight and reporting.
Advocate for investment in community-based alternatives that protect public safety without putting civilians at risk.
This is a matter of life and death in our communities, and it demands responsible leadership and clear moral accountability.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
