I am writing to urge you to take immediate action against the aggressive ICE enforcement operations targeting immigrant communities and violating the rights of both immigrants and U.S. citizens. These practices represent a dangerous escalation that demands congressional oversight and intervention.
Recent ICE raids have specifically targeted Democratic-led cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Charlotte, and New Orleans, as well as vulnerable populations like the Somali community in Minnesota. These operations have resulted in thousands of missing immigrants, including those who disappeared following Operation Midway Blitz in Chicago and Alligator Alcatraz in Miami. Even more alarming, hundreds of U.S. citizens have been wrongfully detained, often due to racial profiling.
The administration has paused green cards and citizenship applications for people from 19 countries and canceled citizenship ceremonies, creating chaos for legal immigrants following proper procedures. ICE detention facilities have documented 510 identifiable human rights violations, including sexual assault, medical negligence, and mistreatment of children and pregnant people. The revival of family separation policies has already affected hundreds of children.
ICE is deploying invasive surveillance tools including facial recognition spyware, phone hacking technology, social media monitoring, and license plate tracking systems like Flock Safety to profile and track individuals. These practices violate privacy rights and enable discriminatory enforcement.
I am asking you to conduct public oversight investigations into ICE agent conduct and detention facility conditions. Please oppose any federal funding bills that enable these practices and publicly condemn these targeted racist attacks against immigrant populations. Your constituents deserve to know where you stand on protecting civil liberties and human rights.
These enforcement actions are not making our communities safer. They are tearing families apart, violating constitutional rights, and creating fear among legal residents and citizens alike. I need to see you take a strong public stance against these abuses.
