Support Jack Smith's Warnings About DOJ Corruption

To: Rep. Hageman, Sen. Lummis, Sen. Barrasso

From: A constituent in Cheyenne, WY

May 7

I'm writing to ask you to speak out publicly about the corruption of the Justice Department under this administration. Former special counsel Jack Smith recently stated that the DOJ has been "corrupted" by Trump loyalists who are "demolishing its credibility and seeking to undermine the rule of law." He's right, and members of Congress need to say so. Smith detailed how the department now "targets people for criminal prosecution simply because the president doesn't like them" and "fails to move on cases because they might uncover facts that are inconvenient to narratives the president would like to press." This isn't normal political disagreement. This is the weaponization of federal law enforcement by someone who was himself criminally indicted. The irony is staggering. A president facing criminal charges gets elected, his cases disappear due to DOJ policy, and then he turns that same department into a tool for personal vendettas. Smith spent his career upholding the rule of law in silence. Now he's speaking out because the threat is that serious. Congress has oversight authority over the Justice Department. Use it. Demand answers about politically motivated prosecutions and suppressed investigations. The credibility of federal law enforcement is collapsing in real time.
