Petition Title:
Add the Hearing Protection Act and SHORT Act to the Federal Reconciliation Bill
⸻
đź“„ Petition Text:
We, the undersigned American citizens, respectfully urge Congress and leadership in both chambers to include the Hearing Protection Act (HPA) and the Stopping the Harassment of Owners of Rifles Today (SHORT) Act in the current federal reconciliation or omnibus legislation—known by some as the “Big Beautiful Bill.”
Both acts are essential reforms that restore long-overdue Second Amendment protections:
• The Hearing Protection Act would remove suppressors from the burdensome and outdated National Firearms Act. Suppressors are legal in 43 states, widely used by veterans, law enforcement, sportsmen, and hunters—not criminals—and provide vital hearing protection. The current $200 tax and lengthy ATF wait period serve no safety purpose and only infringe on the rights of responsible citizens.
• The SHORT Act would repeal unconstitutional federal restrictions on short-barreled rifles (SBRs) and shotguns—firearms that are mechanically identical to longer variants and are in common lawful use. Millions of Americans are currently at risk of accidental felonies due to the ATF’s confusing and ever-changing rules regarding barrel length and stabilizing braces.
These laws are relics of the 1930s, have no measurable impact on crime, and continue to harass law-abiding Americans for exercising their rights. It is time to end bureaucratic overreach and modernize federal firearms regulations to reflect reality and constitutional principle.
We call on:
• Speaker Mike Johnson
• Majority Leader Steve Scalise
• Senate Republicans
• Vice President J.D. Vance
• and President Donald Trump (if re-elected)
To publicly support and demand inclusion of both the HPA and SHORT Act in current or upcoming reconciliation legislation.
Restore common sense. End federal harassment. Protect our hearing. Defend our Constitution.
