Protect Funding for PBS and NPR – A Vital Public Resource

To: Rep. Smith, Sen. Ricketts, Sen. Fischer

From: A constituent in Palisade, NE

May 3

I am writing to urge you to oppose any efforts to cut federal funding for public broadcasting, including PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) and NPR (National Public Radio). PBS and NPR provide essential educational programming, reliable journalism, and cultural content that serves all Americans, especially those in rural and underserved communities where access to quality media is limited. These institutions are a lifeline for factual news, children’s education (through shows like *Sesame Street*), and local storytelling that commercial networks often overlook. Public broadcasting represents a tiny fraction of the federal budget, yet its impact is enormous. Cutting funding would disproportionately harm vulnerable populations, including low-income families who rely on free educational programming, and communities that depend on NPR and PBS for trustworthy news. I strongly believe that a healthy democracy depends on an informed public, and PBS and NPR play a critical role in achieving that. I ask you to defend their funding and advocate for their continued support. Thank you for your time and attention to this important issue. I look forward to your response and hope you will stand with constituents like me who value public broadcasting.
