URGENT: Logistical Negligence and Mistreatment of US Forces in the Persian Gulf
To: Rep. Beatty, Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno

April 25
I am writing to express my profound outrage regarding the ongoing entirely preventable (and easily resolvable) logistical crisis affecting U.S. service members currently deployed in and around the Persian Gulf. Reliable reports and first-hand accounts from the fleet have made it clear that our sailors and Marines are facing severe food shortages and substandard nutrition. While the administration and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth have dismissed these reports as "isolated incidents" or "fake news," this is the reality. And it is a direct result of a failure to listen to experienced voices, a profound lack of skilled planning, and a stubborn refusal to adapt to the region's reality. Let me be clear: this is not a critical military necessity caused by an unstoppable enemy. It is a failure of leadership in the Commander in Chief and his Cabinet. The U.S. military has the immediate capability to rectify this situation through several means: - Aerial Resupply: Utilizing the C-2 Greyhound and CMV-22B Osprey fleets for 24/7 fresh food shuttles. - Forward Sea-Basing: Moving Mobile Landing Platforms closer to the fleet to serve as refrigerated hubs. - Contractual Accountability: Forcing the administration to release the $131 million already allocated by Congress for food program overhauls that are currently bogged down in politically-motivated "restructuring." The administration has avoided these solutions not because they are militarily impossible, but because implementing them would require admitting that their initial planning for the war in Iran was fundamentally flawed. They are prioritizing "tough" political optics and the avoidance of an embarrassing admission of incompetence over the basic health and dignity of the men and women they sent into harm's way. As my representative, I am asking you to use your oversight authority to: 1. Demand an immediate, transparent investigation into the Defense Logistics Agency’s current failure to sustain the fleet. 2. Hold public hearings to bypass the administration's obfuscation and get "ground truth" testimony from career logistical experts. 3. Pressure the Department of War to immediately authorize high-cost aerial resupply missions to ensure our troops are fed. Our service members are being treated as props in a political stalemate. They have done their duty; it is time for the administration to do theirs. Furthermore, empty gestures of "thanking our troops for their service" are a hollow hypocrisy if this office does not use every lever of power available to ensure those same troops are not being deprived of basic necessities. Patriotism requires action, not just rhetoric. I look forward to hearing how you intend to hold this leadership accountable.
