FDA Cuts

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Rep. DeGette, Sen. Bennet

From: A constituent in Denver, CO

April 23

The suspension of the FDA's milk quality testing program due to workforce cuts is alarming and puts public health at risk. Quality control is crucial to ensuring the safety of our dairy supply by detecting potential contaminants and pathogens. Without rigorous testing, consumers could unknowingly consume adulterated or unsafe milk and dairy products. Protecting food safety must be a top priority, as incidents of foodborne illness can have severe consequences, especially for vulnerable populations like children and the elderly. Restoring full staffing and resources to the FDA's food safety programs is imperative to safeguard public wellbeing and maintain confidence in the integrity of our food system. Cutting corners on quality assurance is an unacceptable tradeoff that jeopardizes consumer trust and public safety.
