I am writing as a concerned constituent to express my strong disapproval of the recently proposed initiative known as Project Homecoming, as outlined in a proclamation dated May 9, 2025, and attributed to President Donald J. Trump. This policy proposal, which seeks to incentivize the voluntary departure of undocumented immigrants through taxpayer-funded flights and financial “exit bonuses,” while threatening harsh penalties and property confiscation for those who remain, is deeply troubling. It reflects a dangerous turn toward punitive and dehumanizing immigration enforcement, rather than addressing the issue with the dignity, fairness, and pragmatism that our nation’s values demand. Labeling undocumented immigrants as “invaders” fosters fear and xenophobia rather than constructive solutions. Many of these individuals have lived in the U.S. for years, contributing to our economy, raising families, and seeking better lives. Offering them money to leave while threatening them with incarceration and the loss of homes and property if they stay is not only morally objectionable, but also legally and constitutionally questionable. Furthermore, the proposal to deputize 20,000 additional officers for enforcement duties raises serious concerns about civil liberties, due process, and the potential for abuse and profiling—especially in minority communities. Our immigration challenges require thoughtful, bipartisan solutions focused on reforming the system, not mass expulsions or fear-based tactics. I urge you to speak out forcefully against this proposal, to reject its funding or implementation through any legislative mechanism, and to advocate for humane and practical immigration policies that reflect the ideals of our country.
