Reject discriminatory transgender healthcare ban in spending bill

To: Rep. Elfreth, Sen. Van Hollen, Sen. Alsobrooks

The proposed ban on Medicaid funding for transition-related care for transgender adults in the House spending bill is an unacceptable attack on the rights and wellbeing of a vulnerable community. Denying access to critical, often life-saving medical treatment violates core principles of equality and human dignity. Every person deserves access to the healthcare they need to live authentically and thrive. Stripping away coverage that allows transgender Americans to access hormone therapy, surgeries, and other transition services would have devastating consequences, putting both physical and mental health at grave risk. This discriminatory policy has no place in a society that values justice and compassion for all people. I urge you to reject this harmful provision and instead advance policies that protect and support the transgender community. Their lives and fundamental rights are not negotiable. Healthcare is a human right, and all people must have equitable access regardless of gender identity or expression.
