🇺🇸 PETITION TO THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS
Truth in Public Office Act — Hold Elected Officials Accountable for Lying—
To Members of the United States Congress:
Every American, regardless of party, deserves honesty from those who serve in public office.
Right now, public officials can knowingly lie to the American people without legal consequence — as long as they aren’t under oath. These lies destroy trust, divide the country, and weaken our democracy.
We, the undersigned, call on Congress to pass a Truth in Public Office Act that:
1. Requires all elected officials to certify that their official statements and communications are accurate to the best of their knowledge when speaking about matters of government, elections, national security, or public health.
2. Establishes clear penalties for intentional, material falsehoods made by public officials while performing their duties — including censure, fines, loss of committee assignments, or removal for repeated, deliberate violations.
3. Creates a nonpartisan Office of Public Integrity to investigate verified instances of official deceit and issue public reports.
4. Protects free speech by focusing only on intentional lies about government functions — not opinions, criticism, or political debate.
Truth should not depend on who holds office. It should be a condition of holding it.
We urge Congress to restore integrity, rebuild public trust, and make honesty a legal duty — not an option — for everyone who swears an oath to serve the American people.
Sign this petition to demand that truth in government becomes the law, not the exception.
