Opposition to the Nomination of Dr. Casey Means for U.S. Surgeon General
To: Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno
From: A verified voter in Columbus, OH
February 27
I am writing as your constituent to demand that you vote NO on the confirmation of Dr. Casey Means for U.S. Surgeon General. The role of "the nation’s doctor" requires a commitment to rigorous, evidence-based science and a proven track record in public health—qualities Dr. Means fundamentally lacks.
Dr. Means is a wellness influencer whose primary career has involved the promotion of supplements and products that lack clinical backing. More concerning is her record of anti-science rhetoric. Her history of questioning the safety and efficacy of life-saving vaccines is not just a personal "alternative" view; it is a direct threat to the health of Ohioans and the American public. At a time when we face rising outbreaks of preventable diseases, we cannot have a Surgeon General who sows doubt about the most effective tools we have to prevent them.
Furthermore, she is professionally unqualified. Having never completed a residency and maintaining an inactive medical license since 2019, she lacks the clinical experience required to lead the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.Even former Surgeon General Jerome Adams has noted that it is "incomprehensible" to consider a nominee who has never practiced medicine unsupervised.
We have already seen the consequences of prioritizing ideology over expertise with the confirmation of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services. His tenure has already been catastrophic, marked by the destabilization of our health agencies and a dangerous erosion of public trust. I urge you to learn from that error. I ask that you not only reject Dr. Means but also consider the necessity of holding Secretary Kennedy accountable for a performance that is quite literally putting lives at risk.
Please prioritize the safety and well-being of your constituents over political loyalty. Vote against the confirmation of Casey Means.
