Save the Roman Space Telescope

To: Sen. Alsobrooks, Rep. Elfreth, Sen. Van Hollen

From: A constituent in Laurel, MD

April 14

I am writing to express my deep concern about the president’s proposed cuts to NASA and the Roman Space Telescope. The telescope has been within budget and on schedule to launch next year. The parts have already been purchased from industry partners and assembled at NASA Goddard, and is ready to go through pre-launch testing next month. Canceling the mission at this stage would be a waste of taxpayer dollars that have been spent on the telescope so far. We would be canceling international name recognition and soft power for the United States that would come from this mission, on the scale of the Hubble Space Telescope. I ask that you exercise your congressional power of the purse to oppose the president’s proposed budget cuts and fight to preserve NASA’s international leadership in space science.
