An Open Letter

To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Pfluger

From: A verified voter in Killeen, TX

February 14

I am a constituent urging you to oppose any federal efforts that restrict access to voting under the guise of “election security.” Policies that limit vote-by-mail access, increase the cost and difficulty of obtaining identification, pressure states to turn over voter rolls, or create intimidation near polling locations do not strengthen democracy—they discourage lawful participation. Extensive investigations across multiple states, including Texas, have repeatedly shown that widespread voter fraud is not a significant problem. Spending millions of taxpayer dollars to chase a largely nonexistent threat while creating barriers for eligible voters undermines public confidence rather than protecting it. The real danger is not fraud at the ballot box, but eligible Americans deciding not to vote because the process has been made confusing, expensive, or intimidating. Secure elections and accessible elections are not competing goals. We can maintain strong verification procedures while ensuring that seniors, rural voters, disabled voters, working families, and students are not effectively priced or pushed out of participation. Federal policy should support states in expanding safe access—such as secure absentee voting, adequate polling locations, and reasonable ID access—rather than imposing one-size-fits-all restrictions that function as modern-day barriers to the ballot. I ask you to publicly oppose legislation or administrative actions that restrict lawful voting access and to support policies that protect both election integrity and every eligible citizen’s right to participate without fear, intimidation, or unnecessary obstacles. Thank you.
