No further Texas gerrymanders

To: Lt. Gov. Patrick, Rep. Meyer, Sen. Parker, Gov. Abbott

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

August 10

The health of our representative democracy depends on fair, non-partisan redistricting processes that respect the will of the people rather than manipulating district boundaries for political advantage. Texas is already drastically gerrymandered, to the point my vote and my wife’s vote are essentially meaningless. The last thing Texas needs is more gerrymandering. The redistricting process currently underway in Texas further undermines fair representation and the integrity of our elections. By redrawing district maps mid-decade in a blatant attempt to gain more Republican Congressional seats, you are not only defying a core principle of our democracy but also opening the door for other states to engage in similarly egregious partisan power grabs. I urge you not to go forward with this harmful precedent. Please uphold the sacred principles of electoral integrity and government accountability to the people.
