Clarify SNAP Beverage Restrictions to Align With Sugar Reduction Goals

To: Del. Cole, Gov. Spanberger, Sen. Stuart

From: A constituent in Ruther Glen, VA

April 28

I’m concerned about the proposed SNAP restriction on soda and similar beverages. If the goal is reducing sugar intake, including diet and zero-sugar drinks does not align with that objective. Many people use zero-sugar options to move away from high-sugar drinks, and removing them could unintentionally increase sugar consumption. Please ensure the policy is clearly defined and focused specifically on added sugar, so it remains consistent, practical, and effective.
