Investigate Russian Election Interference and Secure Our Voting Systems

March 29

Congress must launch a full, independent investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. The CIA has concluded that Russia actively worked to help elect Donald Trump, hacking the DNC and Clinton campaign while conspicuously leaving RNC documents unreleased. This wasn't about discrediting our system generally. It was about picking a winner. The FBI had this information for months but Director Comey refused to disclose it while simultaneously releasing damaging letters about Clinton's emails days before the election. That's not impartiality. That's partisan manipulation. Comey should be investigated by the Senate and security agencies for deliberately withholding evidence of foreign interference. We also need a comprehensive audit of our voting infrastructure. If Russia succeeded in influencing this election through hacked emails, we cannot assume our voting systems themselves are secure. Any machines owned by partisan actors or vulnerable to foreign interference must be replaced immediately. The intelligence community must brief the electoral college on these findings before December 19. A foreign adversary caught trying to influence an American election is unprecedented. We need answers before inauguration day, and we need to ensure this never happens again.
