Include Independent Contractors— No Tax on Tips

To: Rep. Huffman, Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff

From: A constituent in Arcata, CA

April 22

I am writing as a delivery driver who works hard for the tips I earn. I urge you to consider including independent contractors like me in the No Tax on Tips Act. While the current legislation would exempt some tips from federal income taxes, delivery drivers and other independent contractors would still be taxed on every dollar we earn in tips. This exclusion means that while many workers would enjoy the benefit of tax-free tips, millions of workers would continue to face a higher tax burden on our hard-earned tips. Tips are tips, no matter how they’re earned. If some tips are tax-exempt, mine should be too. I ask that you support changes to this legislation to ensure fairness for all tipped workers, not just some. Please stand up for Dashers and ensure that my tips receive the same tax break as everyone else’s and support the inclusion of independent contractors in the No Tax on Tips Act. Thank you for your consideration.
