Support the SAVE Act to Ensure Secure Federal Elections
To: Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted
From: A constituent in Perrysburg, OH
February 3
As a resident of Perrysburg, I am writing to you today to urge your active support and sponsorship of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.
We all agree that for our representative democracy to function, the public must have absolute confidence in the integrity of our elections. While the right to vote is our most sacred privilege, it is one specifically reserved by law for U.S. citizens. I believe the SAVE Act provides a common-sense, modernized framework to ensure this principle is upheld across all 50 states.
Why the SAVE Act is Essential Now:
Uniform Standards: Currently, voter registration requirements vary significantly by state. The SAVE Act establishes a clear, national standard by requiring documentary proof of citizenship (DPOC), such as a passport or birth certificate, for federal elections.
Proactive Security: Rather than relying on self-attestation, this legislation moves toward a "verify first" model, which is a standard practice for nearly every other high-security government function.
Protecting Every Legal Vote: By ensuring that only eligible citizens are on the voter rolls, we protect the value of every legal vote cast by Ohioans. Public confidence is eroded when loopholes in the registration process go unaddressed.
I understand the complexities of election administration, but I believe the goal of "one citizen, one vote" is worth the effort of implementing these safeguards. I ask that you work with your colleagues in the 119th Congress to advance this bill and provide the necessary resources for its successful implementation.
Thank you for your dedication to the people of Ohio and for your commitment to a secure and transparent electoral process.
