I am writing to demand immediate action in response to Israel’s newly passed law legalizing the death penalty for Palestinians in military courts.
This law is not justice. It is state-sanctioned execution of an occupied population.
This law does not merely allow punishment—it legalizes execution so it can be carried out systematically. It creates the legal framework for executions. It enables executions. It normalizes executions.
Congress must be clear: this is an apartheid-style execution law.
Make a public statement condemning Israel’s apartheid-style execution law. It violates our human rights laws as well as international law. It violates human rights law. It violates international law. It violates the basic protections owed to people under occupation.
Under the laws of occupation, an occupying power has no right to execute the people it occupies. None.
Thousands of Palestinian political prisoners are now at immediate risk—including Hussam Abu Safiya, whose detention has already triggered urgent concern from UN experts due to reported abuse. These detainees—many held without due process—are now at risk under a system designed to legalize and carry out executions.
If Congress continues funding and arming Israel while it legalizes and enables executions of Palestinians under military rule, you are complicit.
I demand that you:
• Make a public statement condemning Israel’s apartheid-style execution law as a violation of human rights law and international law
• Call for the immediate reversal of this law
• Demand protection for all Palestinian political prisoners at risk of execution
• Demand the immediate release of Hussam Abu Safiya and other arbitrarily detained individuals
• Suspend all U.S. military aid to Israel until this law is repealed
• Convene hearings and accountability measures regarding U.S. complicity
No more statements of concern. No more delays.
This law legalizes execution. This law enables execution. This law prepares for execution.
You must not let this happen.
If you continue to support Israel at this stage, you are violating domestic and international law and betraying your constituents.
There must be consequences.
