“Anti-Weaponization Fund” Unconstitutional, Unethical and Tone Deaf

To: Sen. Ricketts, Rep. Flood, Sen. Fischer

From: A constituent in Papillion, NE

May 20

I am writing to voice my strong, unequivocal opposition to the Department of Justice’s recent authorization of a $1.7 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund,” which stems from President Trump’s $10 billion lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (Trump v. IRS). I urge you to immediately co-sponsor and support legislative remedies—such as the STOP TRUMP Act—to block this unconstitutional, unethical, and tone-deaf misuse of taxpayer money. The creation of this $1.7 billion fund represents an egregious violation of basic legal and ethical standards. Legally, the lawsuit is highly collusive; a sitting President is effectively acting as both the plaintiff demanding damages and the head of the executive branch deciding to "settle" with himself. This circumvents Congress’s exclusive "power of the purse" under Article I of the Constitution. Taxpayer funds are being weaponized into a private political fund intended to financially compensate political allies, including individuals convicted in connection with the January 6th Capitol attack.  Furthermore, executing this massive payout is entirely out of touch with the harsh economic realities everyday Americans face. As working families struggle with the rising costs of groceries, energy, and housing, the administration’s Fiscal Year 2026 budget proposal outlines severe, historic cuts to vital domestic public services, including: A 43.6% reduction to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), stripping billions from federal rental assistance.  A 34.9% cut to the Department of Labor and a 15.3% slash to the Department of Education.  The elimination of essential relief programs, such as the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which protects vulnerable families from extreme weather costs.  An 18% cut to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which independent researchers note has already disrupted or halted critical, life-saving clinical medical trials across the country. It is deeply unethical to claim that the federal government must strip funding from public education, medical research, and low-income heating assistance while simultaneously finding $1.7 billion in taxpayer money to settle a self-serving presidential lawsuit. No public official, including the President, should be allowed to utilize the U.S. Treasury as a personal political tool. I strongly urge you to uphold your oath to the Constitution, assert Congressional oversight over the federal Judgment Fund, and block this corrupt settlement from moving forward. I request a formal response detailing the specific legislative actions you plan to take to protect taxpayer dollars from this unprecedented overreach
