I Strongly Oppose a National Registry for Individuals with Autism

To: Pres. Trump, Sen. Rosen, Sen. Cortez Masto, Rep. Horsford

From: A constituent in Las Vegas, NV

April 23

I am writing to express my deep concern and strong opposition to the proposal supported by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to create a national registry tracking individuals with autism, as reported by The Guardian on April 22, 2025. This proposed initiative—framing a mass collection of private medical data under the guise of research—raises profound ethical, legal, and human rights concerns. A registry of this nature echoes some of the darkest chapters in public health policy and risks further stigmatizing the autistic community rather than supporting them. As someone who values both medical privacy and disability rights, I believe this registry would create a dangerous precedent for targeting individuals based on medical diagnoses. Data collection of this scale—especially when tied to a highly controversial and long-debunked belief that vaccines cause autism—should never be allowed to proceed under federal authority or influence. I urge you to use your voice and your vote to reject any federal funding, policy, or partnership that enables this effort. Instead, I encourage you to support legislation that protects neurodivergent individuals from discrimination and ensures that research is conducted ethically, transparently, and with fully informed consent. Please stand with the autistic community and the many families who are alarmed by this development. There are better ways to support autism research—ways that respect the dignity, privacy, and autonomy of every individual. Thank you for your time and for defending the civil liberties of all Americans.
