Vote No on HR9495

To: Sen. Padilla, Sen. Butler

From: A constituent in Mountain View, CA

November 23

This bill seeks to penalize organizations that provide support to terrorist groups, even inadvertently, by terminating their tax-exempt status. While curbing terror financing is important, the broad definition of "terrorist supporting organization" raises concerns. Groups doing legitimate charitable work for women's rights, immigrants and refugees, anti-war efforts, or social equity initiatives could potentially be targeted without due process. The Secretary can unilaterally designate an organization based on thin evidence, with limited avenues for appeal. This could have a chilling effect on civil society voices. I urge reconsideration of this bill to ensure robust free speech protections and prevent abuse that could silence valid dissent.
