I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to establish stronger oversight and accountability measures for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Recent reports of civil rights violations, family separations, and inadequate detention conditions demand congressional intervention to protect our communities. ICE operates with minimal transparency and limited accountability mechanisms. Constituents in our district deserve assurance that federal agencies are operating within constitutional bounds and respecting due process rights. The current system allows enforcement actions that tear apart families, disrupt local economies, and create fear in communities where people live, work, and contribute. Local law enforcement officials across the country have raised concerns about how ICE operations undermine community policing efforts. When residents fear any interaction with authorities might lead to deportation, they become less likely to report crimes, cooperate with investigations, or seek help in emergencies. This makes everyone in our community less safe. I am asking you to support legislation that would require ICE to implement stronger oversight mechanisms, including regular reporting to Congress on enforcement activities, independent monitoring of detention facilities, and clear protocols that protect constitutional rights. Additionally, funding should be redirected toward processing asylum claims efficiently and humanely rather than expanding detention capacity. Our immigration system needs reform that reflects our values of fairness and human dignity. That reform must include reining in an agency that has operated with insufficient accountability for too long. Constituents are watching how you respond to these concerns, and we need leaders who will prioritize community safety and constitutional protections over unchecked enforcement. I respectfully request your support for measures that establish meaningful ICE oversight and accountability. Our communities deserve better.
