I am writing to express my strong support for the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative Act, which would permanently authorize and expand the Choice Neighborhoods Program administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This legislation represents a vital step forward in addressing the national affordable housing crisis and promoting community revitalization. Since its inception in 2010, the Choice Neighborhoods Program has demonstrated remarkable success. By leveraging substantial public and private investment, it has created over 21,000 housing units in 52 communities across the country. The program's impact reaches far beyond housing by fostering mixed-income communities, preserving affordability, improving neighborhood amenities, and supporting families in building a better future. The Choice Neighborhoods Initiative Act would ensure long-term federal support for these transformative efforts, allowing more communities to benefit from sustainable redevelopment. Its emphasis on holistic neighborhood strategies aligns with the urgent need to expand affordable housing, reduce concentrated poverty, and promote economic mobility. I am so proud that our very own Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester has introduced this bill and strongly urge all of our legislators to put their support behind it. Investing in our neighborhoods is an investment in the well-being, dignity, and opportunity of the people who call them home. Thank you for your continued service and leadership.
