I am writing to express my strong opposition to House Resolution 7, introduced by Representatives Andy Biggs and Clay Higgins. This resolution, which purports to recognize "the importance of access to comprehensive, high-quality, life-affirming medical care for women of all ages," is a thinly veiled attempt to undermine reproductive rights and restrict women’s access to comprehensive healthcare. The language of this resolution reflects a narrow, ideologically driven agenda that disregards the complexities of women’s healthcare needs. By prioritizing so-called "life-affirming" medical care, H.Res.7 seeks to stigmatize reproductive choices, including abortion, which is a critical component of comprehensive healthcare. Limiting access to such care disproportionately harms women, particularly those who are low-income, marginalized, or living in rural areas with already limited healthcare resources. This resolution is not about improving healthcare for women—it is about controlling their choices. Decisions about pregnancy and healthcare should be made between a woman and her healthcare provider, not dictated by politicians with a regressive agenda. It is appalling that in 2024, we are still debating whether women deserve full autonomy over their own bodies and medical decisions. H.Res.7 does nothing to address the real challenges women face in accessing healthcare, such as the rising costs of medical services, lack of affordable childcare, or insufficient workplace protections for mothers. Instead, it wastes time and resources on promoting a narrow vision of healthcare that disregards the diversity of women’s experiences and needs. As your constituent, I demand that you oppose H.Res.7 and any other attempts to erode women’s reproductive rights and access to comprehensive healthcare. The women of this country deserve leaders who will fight for their autonomy, dignity, and well-being—not politicians who seek to strip away their rights. Please respond to this letter with your position on H.Res.7 and the steps you plan to take to protect women’s access to healthcare in all its forms.
