Paxton Is Chasing Bathroom Complaints While Texans Die from Fentanyl

To: Sen. Zaffirini, Rep. Flores, Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick

From: A verified voter in Austin, TX

March 7

On March 6, Ken Paxton announced his office is investigating Austin ISD over a single complaint from a conservative group’s tip line, alleging that a student at Austin High School used the wrong bathroom. Texas has the nation's highest uninsured rate at 18 percent. Fentanyl caused over 3,000 deaths among Texans in 2023. Human trafficking prosecutions in Texas have declined for two consecutive years. Families affected by the Camp Mystic flood last July are still waiting for accountability from state leaders. Meanwhile, Paxton is not addressing these issues. Instead, he is running for U.S. Senate against John Cornyn, with every press release about bathrooms and student walkouts serving as campaign ads disguised as law enforcement. I urge you to publicly call out this office by name for treating Texas taxpayers as an audience for campaign messaging. Demand transparency about how much the AG’s office has spent on these investigations compared to the crimes that are genuinely harming Texans. The people of Texas deserve an attorney general who prioritizes their needs, not one who turns the office into a political showcase.
