I am writing to express my deep concern about the growing militarization of law enforcement and the deployment of military troops and armed federal agents into U.S. cities. These actions threaten our civil liberties and go against the democratic principles that are meant to keep our government accountable to the people, not to any one administration. The Trump Administration’s use of emergency powers to send National Guard and federal agents into communities across the country, often against the wishes of local leaders, sets a dangerous precedent. This expansion of power blurs the lines between law enforcement, the military, and civilian authority, and risks intimidating citizens rather than protecting them. Americans overwhelmingly agree that our streets are not battlegrounds and that military troops have no place policing our neighborhoods. Instead of militarizing communities, our leaders should be investing in the real foundations of safety: access to affordable housing, healthcare, food security, education, and mental health resources. These investments address the root causes of violence and build stronger, safer communities without fear or intimidation. I urge you to: • Support legislation that limits or blocks the president’s ability to deploy military forces for domestic policing. • Hold the administration accountable for any abuse of emergency powers. • Advocate for policies that strengthen community-based safety and protect constitutional rights. We need elected leaders who will defend democracy and ensure that federal power is never used to silence dissent or target vulnerable groups. I ask you to stand with your constituents and uphold these essential freedoms.
