Release $6.8 billion education funds as mandated
To: Rep. Owen, Sen. Boyd
From: A constituent in Sun City Center, FL
July 18
I urge you to take immediate action to release the $6.8 billion in federal education funding that has been improperly withheld from states and school districts. Withholding congressionally appropriated funds without following the legal process violates the constitutional separation of powers and undermines public education across the country. This funding covers critical areas like teacher training, services for English learners, academic enrichment, and after-school programs that are essential for student success. Many districts have already begun making difficult cuts and layoffs due to the lack of funds. Continuing to withhold this money will force more damaging reductions in services and support for some of our most vulnerable students. The reasons given for the funding freeze – to conduct an unspecified "review" in search of a "radical left-wing agenda" – are vague and insufficient justifications for overriding Congressional intent. States and districts rely on the timely disbursement of these funds to effectively operate their schools and programs. Further delays put quality education at risk. As a representative, you have a duty to stand up for your constituents' interests, including their children's education. I ask that you urgently demand the release of the $6.8 billion to states and districts as Congress mandated. Funding public education as allocated should not be a partisan issue. Please act now to get these critical resources flowing again before further harm is done.
