I am writing to urge you to support legislation that protects consumers from excessive ticket resale prices. Right now people across the country are being priced out of concerts, sports events, and cultural experiences because professional resellers and automated bots buy up tickets within seconds and relist them at extreme markups.
Many fans never even have a fair chance to purchase tickets at the original price. Bots and bulk resellers manipulate the system, drive artificial scarcity, and force people to pay several times the face value. This has become a nationwide problem that affects millions of consumers, especially young people and families who simply cannot afford the inflated prices.
The United Kingdom recently announced plans to ban ticket reselling for profit. Fans would still be allowed to transfer or sell their tickets, but only at face value or below. This keeps access fair and prevents the industry from being dominated by scalpers. I believe the United States should adopt similar protections.
I respectfully ask you to consider legislation that would:
• Prohibit the resale of tickets above their original face value
• Strengthen enforcement against ticket bots and mass resellers
• Require full transparency in ticket fees and pricing
• Ensure that consumers have a fair opportunity to purchase tickets directly
These steps would reduce price gouging, limit fraudulent practices, and help restore fairness to the ticket marketplace.
Thank you for your time and for your continued service. I hope you will support stronger consumer protections for event tickets so that people who genuinely want to attend can do so without facing predatory resale prices.
