The extreme concentration of wealth in the hands of a few billionaires is a threat to our democracy and a major contributor to economic inequality. While a 28% tax rate on billionaires is a step in the right direction, it falls far short of what is needed to address the vast disparities in our society. A tax rate of 90% on the wealthiest Americans would provide vital resources to lift millions out of poverty, ensure access to quality healthcare and education, and invest in rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure. Such a tax would also help level the playing field and restore fairness to a system that currently favors the ultra-rich over hard-working families. It is time we had an honest conversation about how extreme wealth concentration is detrimental to our society, and take bold action to rein in billionaire excess through higher tax rates on the richest. The future prosperity and well-being of our nation depends on it.
