An Open Letter

To: Assembly Member Levenberg, Gov. Hochul, Sen. Harckham

From: A verified voter in Shrub Oak, NY

May 13

Over the past two years, New York State has handed out $8 billion in state funds to subsidize what can only be described as political vanity projects municipal bodegas and childcare programs serving a fraction of the workforce. This is not governance. It is a bailout of an incompetent administration using taxpayer money. I made my position clear: if Mayor Mamdani wants to fund his agenda, he should find a way to pay for it. Instead, Albany stepped in and covered for him. That is unacceptable. I am a libertarian. I had no intention of voting in the next election. You have changed my mind. I will be voting for your opponent. Albany has spent decades doing nothing to push back on unfunded mandates that drain local budgets, and now you are asking taxpayers to bail out a mayor whose fiscal recklessness was entirely predictable. The party that has run this state for decades is the problem not some boogeyman who will be gone in two years. When that boogeyman leaves, you will have no one left to blame. You will have to run on your record. And you will lose.
