Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, who has been held hostage and tortured by the Israeli regime since December 2024, told his lawyers he believes he will soon be killed by Israeli authorities in prison. Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, one of Gaza's most prominent doctors who has been held hostage by the Israeli regime since he was abducted in December 2024, met with his lawyer on July 2 after a transfer to Israel's Rakefet prison in late June. According to his lawyer, Dr. Abu Safiya had difficulty breathing and speaking continuously, was so weak he struggled to sit upright, and repeatedly seemed on the verge of losing consciousness. He told his lawyers that he has been subjected to daily beatings in Rakefet prison and has lost consciousness several times as a result. "This is the last time you will see me. They brought me here to kill me. I don't see myself surviving. This is the end," his lawyer quoted him as saying in a joint statement with Physicians for Human Rights Israel. His lawyer and PHRI filed petitions to have him transferred to a different facility. The Israeli Supreme Court demanded a response from the Israeli state by Tuesday. Condemn the torture of a medical worker! Condemn Israel for running horrible camps abusing and torturing many innocent Palestinians. If you oppose ICE abuse of people at home, you should oppose abuse of people anywhere, even Israel.
