I am writing to you not just as a concerned Alaskan but as a scared citizen witnessing a rapid erosion of the democratic values that define our nation.
Recent developments within our government have set off alarm bells regarding the decline of our democracy. As seen in Germany or Rome (and now the United States of America), these include:
• Erosion of the Rule of Law: Apparent disregard for legal norms and processes by those in power.
• Attacks on the Press: An alarming increase in hostility towards a free press, essential for an informed public.
• Disregard for Electoral Integrity: Actions that undermine the sanctity of our elections and threaten the very basis of our representative democracy.
• Concentration of Power: A disturbing trend towards the centralization of executive power that bypasses checks and balances.
• Surveillance and Control of Citizens: Invasive monitoring and control measures that encroach on individual freedoms in the form of DOGE.
• Human Rights Violations: The unethical treatment of vulnerable groups, which undermines our national commitment to human rights
These issues compel me to demand clarity on your positions and strategies:
• What are your specific thresholds for action against these threats? When is enough enough? What is your litmus test?
• How will you actively work to prevent the dismantling of our democratic institutions?
Your answers are crucial. This is a critical moment for our country, and your leadership is needed NOW before it is too late.
