Please oppose H.J. Res. 140. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is a beautiful, untouched wilderness unique in its purity and quiet. My scout troop went to Northern Tier last summer and had the absolute privilege of experiencing the vast beauty of the BWCA, existing as it has for thousands of years. We participated, as most scout groups do, in water quality monitoring, and we sourced our water from the lakes we paddled through. We saw so much wildlife that thrived in the area. We abided by the very strict rules about how far from the water to go for restroom usage, trash, tree protection for bear bags, not overwhelming sites with more than 9 people.... all in an effort to protect the wilderness for years to come. Allowing mining would completely undermine that and forever change the water quality, impacting all who live in the area and all who visit. Please vote no on H.J. Res. 140 to PROTECT the Boundary Waters Canoe Area from harm.
