I am writing to urge you to oppose the proposed $880 billion in Medicaid cuts currently under consideration in Congress. These cuts would directly harm over 9 million older Americans who rely on Medicaid for nursing home care, home-based services, and help covering Medicare premiums. Approximately 62 percent of nursing home residents depend on Medicaid as their primary payer, and reducing this support would jeopardize their access to life-sustaining care (Senate Aging Committee, 2025).
These cuts would also have devastating ripple effects across the economy. Analysts estimate that combined reductions in Medicaid and SNAP could cause a $1.1 trillion loss over the next decade, including a $95 billion federal funding loss in 2026 alone. Such losses would trigger over a million job cuts, especially in healthcare and food industries that serve the most vulnerable (Commonwealth Fund, March 2025).
I urge you to reject any attempt to gut Medicaid and essential services that millions of Americans, particularly seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income families, depend on for survival. Protecting these programs is not only the right thing to do, it is essential for the health and stability of our country.
