Stop the Weaponization of the Library of Congress for AI Exploitation.
I'm writing to express deep concern about recent developments at the Library of Congress that may have sweeping consequences for copyright law, creative professionals, and public trust in our institutions.
Reports suggest that the DOGE and Elon Musk’s xAI are seeking access to the Library of Congress archives to train AI systems. This raises serious alarms—not just about the integrity of one of our nation’s most important cultural institutions, but about the future of copyright protections.
Every book, film, script, and piece of media submitted to the Library of Congress is protected by copyright. Allowing one AI company to exploit this data sets a dangerous precedent. If xAI is granted access, other AI companies will demand the same, effectively gutting the copyright system and leaving creators with no recourse. This isn't innovation—it's exploitation.
I urge you to investigate and oppose any such efforts that violate copyright protections or undermine the Library of Congress’s public mission. Our creative economy and cultural legacy depend on it.
