Reject harmful anti-LGBTQ+ school bathroom discrimination bill
To: Sen. Sundareshan
From: A constituent in Tucson, AZ
May 31
This discriminatory bill aiming to enforce rigid biological sex-based bathroom policies in schools is deeply misguided and harmful. It promotes the marginalization and alienation of transgender and gender non-conforming students, fostering an unsafe and unwelcoming environment. Numerous respected health organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychological Association, have roundly condemned such measures as they increase risks of harassment, violence, and adverse mental health impacts on vulnerable youth. These policies flagrantly violate the privacy rights of all students and open the door to policing of gender expression and identity in an invasive and dehumanizing manner. Moreover, they disregard the overwhelming evidence that allowing transgender individuals to use facilities matching their gender identity does not pose any threat but rather promotes inclusion and affirms their fundamental dignity. I urge you to reject this discriminatory legislation which spreads misinformation, sows division, and targets a historically oppressed minority group. Schools should be places of learning, growth, and acceptance for all students, not hotbeds of intolerance. Upholding the rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ youth is not just a moral imperative, but critical to creating thriving educational environments. Listen to medical experts and stand on the right side of history by opposing this regressive bill.
