Stop the tariffs against Mexico and Canada

To: Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Johnson, Sen. Cruz

From: A verified voter in Addison, TX

February 2

The administration's recent decision to impose sweeping tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico is deeply concerning. As our top two trading partners, these retaliatory measures could significantly disrupt longstanding trade agreements and undermine economic growth. American businesses and consumers will inevitably bear the brunt of rising costs, eroding profitability and fueling inflation. I urge you to reconsider this aggressive trade policy that violates established agreements like USMCA. The risk of a tit-for-tat trade war with such close allies and integrated supply chains is simply too great. Canadian and Mexican officials have already vowed retaliation, which could trigger a damaging cycle harming American exporters, manufacturers, and households through higher prices and reduced economic opportunity. Instead of escalating tensions with our neighbors through unilateral tariff hikes, we should pursue constructive dialogue to address concerns while upholding critical trade relationships that support millions of American jobs. Protectionist policies seldom yield the intended benefits and frequently backfire by constricting markets and inhibiting innovation. A return to open and fair trade based on enforcing existing rules presents a better path forward for sustained prosperity on all sides. I encourage prioritizing diplomatic resolution over rash actions that could destabilize the North American economy.
