Your silence is unacceptable.
President Trump’s repeated threats and rhetoric about turning Canada into the “51st state” are reckless, destabilizing, and deeply offensive—not just to Canadians, but to every American who understands the value of long-standing alliances. Canada has been a constant, reliable ally to the United States for decades. They have stood with us militarily, economically, and diplomatically through wars, global crises, and international instability. This is not a rival nation. This is a trusted partner.
So why are you allowing the President to antagonize one of our closest allies with childish, warmongering nonsense?
This behavior is not “joking.” It is not “tough talk.” It is dangerous. It undermines diplomacy, damages global trust in the United States, and makes our country look unstable and unserious on the world stage. Threatening an allied, sovereign nation is how conflicts begin—not how responsible governments behave.
Congress is not a spectator body. You are a co-equal branch of government with both the authority and the obligation to act when a President behaves recklessly. Your refusal to publicly condemn these statements is being read—loudly—as approval.
Speak up.
Draw a line.
Defend diplomacy.
Make it clear that the United States does not threaten its allies, does not fantasize about annexation, and does not tolerate rhetoric that puts international stability at risk. If you cannot stand up for one of our most dependable allies, then what exactly are you standing for?
History will remember who stayed silent while an alliance was mocked and endangered for political ego. Do your job. Say something—now.
Yours truly,
An American who expects Congress to act like adults!
